At the dawn of time, huge lizard armies commanded by the Ancient Ones conquered every corner of the remote continent of Hyperborea. No other civilization could equal their might and power. Uncountable lives of humans and dwarves were lost in unequal battles against the almighty power of the Draconians. The invaders of Hyperborea knew how to use the inner strength of the land itself. Using their arcane knowledge they could cast devastating spells and give enormous strength to their armies.
Crushed once and again by the armies of their enemies, some human tribes started an exodus to safer lands. The tribes that couldn’t escape from Hyperborea bowed to the Draconians and were condemned to live their lives as slaves of the lizards and treat them as gods.
During all these years, the absolute power and control of the Draconians over Hyperborea allowed that the Ancient Ones, obsessed with immortality, enter a lethargy that will return them their youth. The leadership of the inexperienced Young Ones has neglected the vigilance of Hyperborea’s shores. Maybe the Draconians will pay their mistake.
The exodus of the humans, known as the Long Walk, lasted hundreds of years. During these years the humans had to face terrible dangers, cross burning deserts and camp in frozen steppe. Finally they found a place to live, a place that they can call home.
The humans are not any longer that folk scared of the power of dragons. Now, enormous steel cities blackened by burning furnaces form the skylines of their cities. Smoky factories work during days and nights constructing weapons. Within jets of steam the Technocrats have been getting ready for war.
The Long Walk is a myth for humanity and Hyperborea is the promised land for them. The humanity yearns for going back to the land they fled from years ago. In the same way as the Draconians, the humans have learned to obtain power from the land. But in contrast to the Draconian’s magic, the humanity’s power comes from the carbon and steel. Thirsty for power and revenge, the Technocrats dream about dominating Hyperborea, not only to obtain the precious natural resources they need for their factories, but also to crush the Draconians and get back what is theirs.
The ships of the Technocrats are now anchored on the shores of Hyperborea. The first settlements and factories have been already built. Some of the human tribes that were left in Hyperborea during the Long Walk see the Technocrats as their saviors. Other tribes prefer to defend their masters and do not face the dragons’ wrath. The Draconians have awakened some of the Ancient Ones, many, the most powerful are still sleeping and it’s difficult that they can be awakened at time for the forthcoming war.
The war for Hyperborea has begun, and as their inhabitants say: “When the elephants fight, it’s the grass who suffer”.
